historyAs one of Manchester's leading independent directors, Christopher Wright originally established LeKoa as a means to produce his own writing. Working in various roles of producer, writer and director he brings in collaborators according to the demands of the project including actors, writers, designers, stage managers, press officers and technicians. LeKoa's first play, Black Box, premiered at Contact (Manchester) in January 2003 to sell-out audiences and critical acclaim. LeKoa's latest play, Vent, underwent a workshop and rehearsed reading at The Lowry (Salford) in November 2003. Lekoa was invited to perform extracts from Vent by The Royal Exchange in August 2006 where it played to a sell-out audience. Vent will be produced in 2006.

what LeKoa doesLeKoa is committed to the development of new writing for the theatre. The company works to a simple formula that encourages collaboration through every stage of creating new work. The writer writes a first draft script in isolation or produces an already completed draft. Actors are then brought in to collaborate on the development of the script. Over a one to two week period the script is torn apart and reconstructed through collaboration with the actors, playwright and director. The workshop concludes with a rehearsed reading to an invited audience. Feedback from the audience contributes further to the development process. The writer then continues to develop a new draft of the play in response to the workshop and reading. The final draft will then be considered for production by LeKoa. |

| Based in the North West, LeKoa strives to nurture relationships with venues to produce new work. The company looks to affiliate with venues for residencies, integrating itself into the overall fabric of the venue's artistic vision. At present LeKoa has working relationships with Contact and The Lowry. LeKoa is committed to collaborating with and employing artists from the North West.
