Christopher Wright, Artistic Director

Christopher is a director, writer, and producer who has been working in theatre since 1992. He was artistic director of The Honeymoon Killers, a Manchester-based touring company, from 1993 to 1996 and wrote, directed and produced BALLAD OF LUCY JORDAN, RAYMOND & MARTHA, and DIRTY MARY. The Honeymoon Killers were the first theatre company to ever perform at The Hacienda and enjoyed national and international touring success.

Christopher disbanded the company in 1997 to work in Botswana, Africa as a community drama director. On his return to the UK in 1998 he taught for three years before returning to theatre as a freelance director. He established LeKoa in 2002 and wrote, directed and produced the company’s first play, BLACK BOX, for a sell-out run at Contact, Manchester in 2003. Christopher is a regular guest director for Contact working on several FLIP THE SCRIPT events and directed Contact's in-house productions for CONTACTING WORLD FESTIVAL 2004 & 2005.

He was Education & Outreach Director for Oldham Coliseum Theatre in 2004 and directed the Coliseum’s major Inside Out project, The Ghosts of Crime Lake by Kevin Fegan, in July 2005. Christopher is an Associate Director for both the National Youth Theatre and The Lowry and was a regular director for Manchester Youth Theatre. As a freelance director he has directed amongst others FESTEN, THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR, EDMOND, THE RIMERS OF ELDRITCH, SNAKE IN FRIDGE, MORE LIGHT, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST and THE CRUCIBLE.

Zariah Bailey, Actor (Vent)

Zariah played the role of Ike in VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour. He trained at Manchester Metropolitan School of Theatre.

 

Ned Bennett, Assistant Director (Vent)

Ned was assistant director for VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour as part of the Post-Graduate Work Placement Scheme. He trained at University of Manchester and his theatre credits, whilst training, include JOURNEY'S END, MY FAIR LADY and STONES IN HIS POCKETS. He is co-founder of Johnny Miller Presents... and directed ORPHANS, THE IMPOTENCE OF BEING ERNEST and THE DIABOLIC BANQUET for the Edinburgh Fringe 2006.

 

Claire Bleasdale, Actor (Black Box; Vent)

Claire is a regular collaborator having been involved in every LeKoa project since its conception in 2002. She trained at Manchester Metropolitan School of Theatre and has since performed in BLACK BOX for LeKoa at Contact, SONGS & SCARS for Lost Theatre Company, and PLAZA SUITE at Stoke Rep. Her recent TV work includes CORONATION ST for Granada, WHEN DISCO RULED THE WORLD for BBC, and AT HOME WITH THE BRAITHWAITES for Yorkshire. Claire is also a workshop leader and teacher, and an associate artist for The Lowry and National Youth Theatre. Claire played the role of Jenny in VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour.

 

Victoria Brazier, Actor (Vent)

Victoria played the role of Clarissa in VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour. She trained at Birmingham School Of Speech & Drama and her theatre credits include ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL at Lancaster Castle, HOBSON'S CHOICE for The Royal Exchange, and THE BORROWERS at West Yorkshire Playhouse. Radio credits include title roles in SOPHIE AND THE RIVER GIRL and DIDO  for BBC Radio Four.

Sharon Brown, Co-Producer & Graphic Designer (Vent)

Sharon is an associate visual artist for LeKoa and has her work displayed in the gallery. She co-produced VENT with the Artistic Director, and was the photographer and designer for the show's pubilicty. Sharon will continue to play a fundamental role in the development of LeKoa.

 

Alexandra Btesh, Actor (Vent)

Alexandra is a regular collaborator having been involved in the very first script workshop for BLACK BOX in 2002. She trained at Manchester Metropolitan School of Theatre where she performed in amongst others HAEBUS CORPUS, SILENCE, THE CELEBRATION, RING AROUND THE MOON and THE CANTERBURY TALES. Recent professional theatre work includes MACBETH at Gateway, Chester. Alexandra played the role of Connie in VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour.

 

Elianne Byrne, Actor (Vent)

Elianne is a regular collaborator and performed in scenes from VENT at the Royal Exchange in 2005. She trained at Manchester Metropolitan School of Theatre.

 

Jarrod Cooke, Actor (Vent)

Jarod is a regular collaborator and performed in scenes from VENT at the Royal Exchange in 2005. He trained at Arden School Of Theatre and his theatre work includes THE FOX for Tangere Arts, and SCORE for Octagon Studio, Bolton. Jarrod's TV work includes HOLBY CITY and GIRLS IN LOVE 2 for Granada.

 

Mary Cummings, Stage Manager (Black Box)

Mary was SM for LeKoa’s first production BLACK BOX at Contact in 2003. Her theatre work includes ASLEEP UNDER THE DARK EARTH and ANNA KARENINA at Arena Theatre Wolverhampton, TALE OF TWO CITIES and MILL ON THE FLOSS at Wolverhampton Grand, SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN at Priestly Centre for the Arts Bradford, ALADDIN, MISS SAIGON, WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARVES at the Opera House/Palace Theatre Manchester. She was In-House Stage Manager at Theatre in the Mill, Bradford from 1999 to 2000, and Company Manager for Manchester Youth Theatre from 2002 to 2003.

Rob Currie, Carpentry (Black Box)

Rob built the set for BLACK BOX in 2003 and VENT in 2006, and continues to work with Christopher Wright for various projects. He runs his own carpentry firm Boxwood based in south Manchester.

 

Kelly Delaney, Stage Manager (Vent)

Kelly was stage manager for VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour as part of the Post-Graduate Work Placement Scheme. She trained at University of Salford and her theatre credits include ROAD and SNAKE IN FRIDGE. She directed FICKY STINGERS in 2006.

 

Mark Distin, Lighting Designer (Vent)

Mark was Lighting Designer for VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour. He currently works at Contact, Manchester and this will be his first collaboration with LeKoa

 

Neil Eckersley, Press Officer (Black Box; Vent)

Neil was press officer for BLACK BOX in 2003 and for the VENT Autumn 2006 tour.

 


Jonathon Finlay, Actor (Black Box; Vent)

Jonathon is a regular collaborator and performed in LeKoa's first production BLACK BOX at Contact in 2003, and scenes from VENT at the Royal Exchange on 2005. He trained at the Drama Studio and his theatre work includes A PLACE AT THE TABLE for Not The National Theatre, MACBETH for English Shakespeare Company, KING LEAR at Cork Opera House, 13 SIMON STREET at Bridewell Theatre, and GROUND ZERO at Southwark Playhouse. Jonathon's TV work includes BAD GIRLS, MURPHY'S LAW, FAMILY, FIFTEEN STORIES HIGH 2, EASTENDERS, MY HERO, HAPPINESS, OTHER ANIMALS, THE BILL, PIG HEART BOY, STORM DAMAGE, APOCALYPSE WATCH, LONDON'S BURNING, NEXT OF KIN, CASUALTY, and 2 POINT 4 CHILDREN.

Paul David Gough, Actor (Black Box; Vent)

Paul is a regular collaborator and performed in LeKoa’s first production BLACK BOX at Contact in 2003. He trained at Welsh College of Music & Drama and his theatre work includes THE INVISIBLE MAN and JACK AND THE BEANSTALK at Oldham Coliseum Theatre, THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER for WOT Theatre, HIAWATHA at Grand Theatre Wolverhampton and RESPECT at Grand Theatre, Blackpool. Paul’s TV work includes JOURNEY’S END, A&E, CORONATION ST and BORN FREAK. He was Artistic Director of Wigan Pier Theatre Company, and recently founded the Academy at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool.

 

Chris Hannon, Actor (Vent)

Chris is a regular collaborator having been involved in the very first script workshop for BLACK BOX in 2002. He trained at Manchester Metropolitan School of Theatre and his credits include SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER, ANTONY & CLEOPATRA, HOBSON’S CHOICE and THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO at the Royal Exchange, WALL TALKS and THE THREE LIVES OF LUCIE CABROL at Unity Theatre, and SCHWECK IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR at Library Theatre. His TV work includes NURSES and THE FORSYTE SAGA.

 

Marcus Hercules, Actor (Vent)

Marcus performed in scenes from VENT at The Royal Exchange in August 2005.

 

Paul Leeming, Actor.

Paul collaborated on the first LeKoa script workshop for BLACK BOX in 2002. He trained at Manchester Metropolitan University and his theatre credits include SEPARATE TABLES at The Royal Exchange, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and SCHWEYK IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR at Library Theatre, Manchester, and DRACULA for Feelgood Theatre Company. Television credits include LIFE ON MARS, AT HOME WITH THE BRAITHWATES and PIG IN THE MIDDLE.

Maike Lynden, Actor (Black Box; Vent)

Maike in a regular collaborator having been involved in the majority of LeKoa’s projects. She trained at Manchester Metropolitan School of Theatre and her credits include SAVAGES at West Yorkshire Playhouse, STARGAZING at Harrogate Theatre, MOVING VOICES at Sheffield Crucible, DICK WHITTINGTON at Library Theatre, PEER GYNT at the Royal Exchange, ROMEO & JULIET at Stramanns Theatre Germany, and A BOX OF BANANAS and THE NECKLACE at Gate Theatre Notting Hill. Maike’s TV work includes A LIFE FOR A LIFE, CHILDREN’S WARD, SCAR STORIES, HOLBY CITY, ALWAYS & EVERYONE, NORTH SQUARE, EMMERDALE, CORONATION ST, and THE KING & US. Maike recently qualified as a marriage counsellor for Relate and continues to practise in London.

 

Max McGuirk, Composer (Vent)

Max composed the music for VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour. This was Max's first collaboration with LeKoa.

 

Freddie Machin (Actor, Vent)

Freddie played the role of Adam in VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour. He trained at Manchester Metropolitan University and his theatre credits include KES at The Royal Exchange, and HAMLET and THE LESSON for Lights Out Theatre Company.

 

Ben Moores, Actor (Vent)

Ben was understudy for VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour as part of the Post-Graduate Work Placement Scheme. He trained at University of Salford and his theatre credits, whilst training, include GUYS AND DOLLS, TWO and THE THREE LIVES OF LUCY CHABROL. He was a performer for British Stage Productions, and is co-founder of Just Add Water Theatre Company.

Louise Morgan, Assistant Stage Manager (Black Box)

Louise trained at Manchester University in English & Latin and was ASM for LeKoa’s first production BLACK BOX at Contact in 2003. Her theatre work as performer and crew member includes KISS ME KATE, THE MERRY WIDOW, HALF A SIXPENCE, YEOMAN OF THE GUARD, ANYTHING GOES, DIE FLAUDERMAS, OLIVER, CAROUSEL, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, SOUTH PACIFIC, ME & MY GIRL, THE KING & I, THE PAJAMA GAME and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF all for South Manchester Operatics Society. Louise currently works as ASM at Royal Northern College of Music.

 

Joe Murray, Actor (Vent)

Joe collaborated in the script workshop for VENT and performed in the role of Nick in the rehearsed reading at The Lowry in 2003.

 

Gemma North, Actor (Vent)

Gemma was understudy for VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour as part of the Post-Graduate Work Placement Scheme. She trained at Bretton Hall and her theatre credits include BUZZ for Fast Forward Theatre Company, A LITTLE PRINCESS for M & M Productions, and ECLIPSE at the Edinburgh Fringe. Her fimm credits include 10:15 TO ENLIGHTMENT for Anonymous Room.

 

Jenna Omeltschenko, Stage Manager (Vent)

Jenna was stage manager for VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour as part of the Post-Graduate Work Placement Scheme. She studied at University of Manchester and her theatre credits include ARTHUR: KING OF THE BRITONS for Feelgood Theatre Company, and HAMLET at Contact. Jenna will be ASM and assistant producer on DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES for Hercules Productions.

Alistair Reith, Actor (Vent)

Alistair played the role of Nick in VENT for the Autumn 2006 tour. He trained at York University and his theatre credits include BOUNCERS for Stageworks Theatre Company, THE ROMANS IN BRITAIN at The Crucible, Sheffield, MACBETH and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING for Cambridge Shakespeare Festival, A CHRISTMAS CAROL and DRACULA for The Dreaming, and ROAD  for Green Dream House. Film and tv work includes HAUNTED YORK for Channel 5, DREAM for Yorkshire TV, and LITTLE VOICE for Working Title.

 

Conor Ryan, Actor (Black Box; Vent)

Conor is a regular collaborator playing the role of Cassius in BLACK BOX at Contact in 2003. He trained at Rose Bruford College of Speech & Drama and his theatre credits include COMEDY OF ERRORS and SWEET WILLIAM for Northern Broadsides UK tour, and PIG’S EAR at Liverpool Playhouse. Conor’s TV work includes FLESH AND BLOOD, KAVANAGH QC, TOUGH LOVE, BUTTERFLY COLLECTOR, HOLLYOAKS, CORONATION ST, HETTY WAINTHROPE INVESTIGATES, THE BILL, EMMERDALE, THE COURT ROOM, and SPOOKS II.

 

Mark Whittington, Graphic Designer (Black Box)

Mark designed the publicity for LeKoa’s fist production BLACK BOX at Contact in 2003. He currently works as Head of School of Art & Design at Runshaw College Leyland and continues to design.
