Vent Workshop Packages F.E.

To accompany the autumn tour of Vent, LeKoa is offering a selection of masterclass workshop packages focusing on the actor’s approach to text, and the creative process of developing new writing. The descriptions of the workshops below include relevant criteria for BTEC National Diploma and AS/A2 Level curriculum. An additional workshop on audition techniques has been included to coincide with students’ UCAS and drama school applications.

 

We have two packages for you to choose from:

 

Package 1    A workshop, a performance of Vent , and an optional post-show Q & A

Package 2    A workshop

 

If you want to take up Package 1, just choose a workshop(s) from the selection below, decide which performance of Vent you will attend (and if you want to stay for the post-show Q & A), select a convenient date from the schedule below, and then call LeKoa to arrange the workshop.

 

If you are unable to attend a performance of Vent but wish to take up Package 2, then choose a workshop(s) from the selection and call LeKoa to arrange a date and time.

 

If you choose Package 1 you will receive a £50 discount on any workshop(s).

 

Please note that whilst the workshop fee will be paid directly to LeKoa, purchase of ticket for Vent will arranged between yourselves and the theatre venue.

WORKSHOP A - JUST SAY THE LINES: Approaching The Text

As no-nonsense approach to text that strips away any pretence of ‘method’, focusing on the words on the page. Using extracts from Vent or text relevant to students, the workshop looks at how the actor fulfils the author’s intentions by disregarding ‘character’, ‘emotional empathy’, and self-indulgence.
Duration:         3 hours   
Fee:               £125  Package 1 / £175 Package 2

Age Range:    16 +

Courses:         Appropriate for most post-16 vocational and academic courses, in particular:

                      BTEC National Diploma Performing Arts: Units: Acting 1 (criteria 1,2);       

                      Acting 2 (criteria 1,2,4,5); Contemporary Theatre Practise (criteria 2,3)

                      Outcomes:   Discussion, interpretation and realisation of contemporary text;

                                         Development of material for performance

                      A2 Drama & Theatre Studies (AQA): Unit A4 Practical – Play In Production

                      Outcomes:   Focus on dramatic intentions of the play and the means to

                                         communicate these to an audience

                      AS Drama & Theatre Studies (Edexcel): Unit 2 Text In Performance I

                      Outcomes:   Ability to make judgments about the interpretation of a text;

                                         Communicate the meaning of a text effectively

WORKSHOP B - WORDS ON A PAGE: New Script Writing

This intensive practical workshop focuses on the process of new script writing, using individual and group exercises to offer techniques and tips about character and conflict, story structure, and improvisation to find dialogue. The workshop aims to give each participant the tools and material to develop their own new play.
Duration:         3 hours   
Fee:               £125  Package 1 / £175 Package 2

Age Range:    16 +

Courses:         Appropriate for most post-16 vocational and academic courses, in particular:

                      BTEC National Diploma Performing Arts: Units: Script Writing (criteria 2,4,5);

                      Devising (criteria 2,3); Drama Improvisation (criteria 1,2,3,4)

                      Outcomes:   Present ideas for a script and communicate and outline the piece;

                                         Ability to rework ideas in order to transform them into a dramatic script

                       AS Drama & Theatre Studies (Edexcel): Unit 4 Devising

                       Outcomes:   Identify the dramatic potential of a chosen stimulus;

                                          Negotiate and organise a structure for the devising process

WORKSHOP C - STAND STILL AND SPEAK UP: Audition Techniques

A practical workshop to prepare the student for audition including choice of text, delivery, responding to direction, and the voice. This workshop will demystify the audition process and help the student feel confident and prepared. (Participants will bring two speeches that they are considering for audition).

Duration:         3 hours   
Fee:               £125  Package 1 / £175 Package 2

Age Range:    16 +
