SHARON BROWN

Born in Scotland, Sharon studied Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University. Over the last 10 years she has lectured across a wide range of disciplines within the Visual Arts working extensively in the post-16 sector in England and Botswana, Africa. Sharon is currently combining lecturing with her own art practice and is working towards completing a body of work linked to her latest project, due for exhibition early next year.

Rationale of work
“My work deals primarily with having an emotional and visual response to a specific environment, each place suggesting its own unique range of visual information and found source material. In each work I set out to evoke a sense of history, of time passing, of objects, people or memories being left behind or discarded. I produce the work using techniques and materials that create visible and hidden layers, at times providing small clues to not only personal histories and thoughts but also to the essence or purpose of a particular place during a specific period of time. In a way I am trying to preserve history, but at the same time trying to communicate a personal response or comment on how history itself has left its mark.”.
